Blog Assignment #1

Welcome to English 9 Honors. You have just embarked on a spanking new journey; the high school experience. Believe me, you will survive, if not excel. Tell me about it. I would like two separate posts (meaning you are going to hit the comment bar twice to provide two different comments.

Post 1: Talk to me about your experience so far. What has eight days of high school revealed to you about this environment? I would like to hear about your feelings, your expectations, your hopes, your apprehensions. What do you like about it; what could you do without (besides your English teacher)? Please be as frank as possible and, as always, remember our forum. (Should be a minimum of ten sentences)

Post 2: Please respond to a classmate's post. (Should be a minimum of eight sentences)

  1. I honestly didn't expect it to be this hard. In middle school it was so easy to keep up my straight-A's and now it's like I'm actually going to have to work. Say what? Work? Study? Impossible. There's so much to think about, so much work to do. Here's the crazy thing though. I actually love it. I've been looking forward to high for so long and now we're actually here. I really want to focus on my school work so I can get into the college of my dreams, but I also know that I'm going to be joining clubs and getting out there to really experience what it's like to be a high school student. I'm sure it'll only get better as we go up in grades too, because even though I know that it'll be hard, I know that here we will make memories that we can tell our children and grandchildren. Here we'll make friends that will never let us down. But here we'll also get our hearts broken and our dreams may be crushed. It's all part of the experience though. And thus, bring it on high school.

  3. High school is defiantly different than what I thought it was going to be like. Everyone was telling me how hard it was going to be and especially that I am taking harder classes. I didn’t think it was going to be like they said. I was wrong. It is so hard. There is so much homework, quizzes, and tests already. I think I get home at three and do homework till six or seven. What makes high school even harder is all my soccer practices and games. I have soccer practice Tuesday through Thursday and three to four games on the weekend. Soccer is a big part of my life, but school is most important. I have to keep up with all the homework and studying to get to the college that I want to get into, UCLA. High school is totally different than middle school. In middle school it was so easy to get A’s and to have a social life. The teachers expect so much more from you, than they did in middle school. It is like a whole new concept. I know high school is going to be a challenge, but I am ready for it.

  4. I still can not believe I am in High School. Even the word High School brings on thoughts of lockers, uperclassmen, tardies, homework, studying all night, and other horrors. Really though, high school is really not that deep. The purpose of high school is not to push you to the edge of craziness. It is to get more knowledge, find who you really are, and to prepare your for the future. I have realized over this short span of eight days, that life is more then test scores and grades. One bad grade or test score probably will not change your life forever. The world is bigger then that. Our lives are a tiny spec on a timeline. Life is for living, not for regretting.

There are a couple of things that I love about high school. One of them are lockers. It gives me some much satisfaction when my lock clicks open. This is probably just another fetish I have. I also like going to classes and carrying my books and binders. It makes me feel like I am important and on a mission. I also enjoy being on the tennis team and going to away games. The bus rides are fun. I could probably do without the ten minute snacks. Maybe twenty minutes would be nice, but other then that I am happy.
Getting straight A's in high school is going to be more challenging then getting them in middle school. I am ready for the challenge, though. Life is always going to get tougher and harder.. If you spend too much time in the shallow end, what is going to happen when you get thrown in the ocean?

  5. @Deena

I totally agree with you. It was so easy to get straight A's in middle school. Now in high school, there is so much homework and tests. There are fun extra-curricular activities to take part in, but it is hard to find the time. High school is like an entirely different league compared to middle school. When people would talk about high school as hard and tough, I would think they were exaggerating. Those people obviously were not. I too am ready for this journey through high school. I just have to stay on top of my work and not procrastinate.
Middle school was like a lake, and high school is the ocean.

  6. My eight days of high school has been very interesting. I always thought high school was much more fun, but maybe that's because I haven't been in high school for that long. And it has only been eight days. High school for me though is kind of the same as middle school because you still have to walk to your classes and you still get homework, but there is also a big difference. High school has much more people not only that but you don't have classes with only your grade. Your mixed with different people in different grades. For me that feels so weird because I am so not used to it yet. Also I don't get to see half of my class mates anymore which I am sad about. The lockers though are cool. I like the lockers because I don't have to carry my books every where I go now. I got a middle locker so I am happy.

I hope high school isn't that hard for me and I can get better on not procrastinating on my homework till late at night. What I could do without is probably the really short snack time. Seriously those few minutes we get goes by super fast. I would like to have a longer snack time for sure. Oh I also really like the 7 minutes for passing period. I like that I don't have to rush to my locker then have to go to my class in such a hurry. Another thing I really like is the no 6 period for people who play on a sport like I do. I am excited for the rest of my high school years, but also scared that now everything counts for getting into a good college. That is my biggest priority to get into a college that I want to go to. Grades are really important to me because it practically holds my future. I noticed that in high school we are going to get a lot more homework then we did get in middle school and I hope it isn't to much to handle. I still want to hang out with my friends so hopefully I can find a balance with homework and friends. The new journey for high school has just begun and hopefully it gets better and better.

I know! I cant believe we are now finally in high school. High school has given us so much work these past eight days. I have already gotten tests, quizzes, and a lot of homework. I remember the second day of school I had so much work to do. I am excited for the fun activities we can take part in. As you said Kristen, "Middle school was like a lake, and high school is the ocean." That is so true. If you don't keep up with your school work in high school, you will drown and no one wants to drown. It is also hard if you have a sport because there is always games on different days of the week and after school, sometimes you don't get home until late at night where your teacher is still going to expect all the homework turned in the next day. Like Megan said, it will be hard, but high school is also going to make great memories that we will never forget and you can tell your children and grandchildren when we get older. But that isn't going to happen for a long time.

  8. Well let's see Highschool has been a range of things. My first day was pretty boring. I knew very few people, so I kind just drifted through school. But as the week went on I met a couple new people and made a couple new friends every day. Before i knew it i had a whole group of friends. And now we hang out every day before and after school and on weekends. But it's getting kinda tough to balance school, and friends because I have tons more homework than they do. I'm glad I've made some new friends but I still have the urge to meet even more people and make even more friends. I feel like theres so much more to highschool that havent seen, or exerienced yet.
All in all highschool has been an anigma. I never know whats going to happen or how the day will be, so for nonw I've decided just go with the flow. I hope I'm able to find a balnce betwee my social life, school, and sports, and maint srtaightr A's. I miss L.A. and my old friends, but I am slwoly getting used to El Segundo.

  9. First of all, I just cannot believe I am already in high school! Last year, when I envisioned my high school experience, I thought it was going to be absolutely amazing. But now that I am here, I have realized that it really isn't as crazy and exciting as it is in the movies. Although, I love how there are so many new people and so many different choices. Whether it's what sport you play, what classes you take, who you hang out with, there are just so many options! It's fantastic! I enjoy this because I feel like all of the choices I make right now affect my future. Now that I am in high school, I feel more independent. There is so much to remember, and so much work to do. I really have to rely on myself to remember everything.

One thing I have learned in these eight days of high school is that it is good to make mistakes. If you bomb a test, it's not the end of the world. But I have also learned that I have to work much, much harder to get all A's. In middle school, I hardly ever got B's. I breezed by everything. In high school, I have to really put the time and work in, in order to reach my goals. The teachers at the high school have much higher expectations of everyone, and I am going to have to adjust to that. I hope to learn how to really put the time in for every single class, which is going to be a challenge because of after school sports and activities. In high school we are going to make friends and lose some, get good grades, and maybe bob a few tests. Through all the challenges and victories that may be thrown at me, I am completely ready to take on high school every step of the way.

  10. Dear Brittany and Megan and Kristen. I agree, Highschool is way differnt from middle school. I like that there ae less rules about cell phones, and dress code etc. The class sizers are bigger and theres so many more people. But I like it. I like the big size, and all the different people and personalities in all of my classes. I aslo love all of my teachers I wish I could have them all four years. What I dont like is all this homeork and its only been the first few day days, so as time goes on I know the homework will increase. I fear it's gonna take over my life.

  11. On the first day, I think that all the frshman had a whirlwind of emotions, what will it be like, how is it to have lockers, will I get lost?We have been in high school eight days already, hae already had SO much work. The first day, we didn't just have to have our parents sign a syllabus, we had chapter notes and we had to read things. In middle school it seemed as if we could finish our homework fast, there was not as much work in class, and we could still hang out with our friends in between classes. Now we have more work and you need to skip from building to buliding for just one class. Even though it seems as if we are complaing, there are so many positive things about high school. The clubs, sports, friends, memories and so much more. For example, next month will be homecoming. The float buliding, the football game, and corination. High school is definatly differnt than I thought it would be, but I know I am excited for the years to come!

You said, "There are a couple of things that I love about high school. One of them are lockers. It gives me some much satisfaction when my lock clicks open." Oh my gosh I totally agree with you about the lockers! I love the feeling I get whenever I open up my locker too because it's pretty cool to think that it belongs to me. Also, I agree, the bus rides to different schools for tennis are pretty awesome. Yes, it would be nice if we had more time for snack. The time goes by way too fast.

    @omgitsmarie

I hope I'm able to find a balnce betwee my social life, school, and sports, and maint srtaightr A's." That is so true. I feel like every day there is something to do or somewhere to go. Whether it's studying for a quiz, or going to tennis practice. I really hope I learn how to balance everything out and still keep up with my grades too!

  14. High School is a whole new ball game. This year i know i will have to work a lot harder than in middle school. In middle school it was easy to keep straight A's. But now it will be a long hard year and i am looking forward to it. High school so far has been a crazy experience, i have met new people, got a locker, and already been through so much with sports. It brings so much more freedom than middle school. I expect that i will get used to it , but right now I am overwhelmed in the moment. I know it will be hard but this year i hope to maintain a 4.0 GPA, but I know it will be hard. I have already met a bunch of cool new people I hope to become friends with. My favorite part of High School so far is the fact that I'm playing a sport so i get to leave at different times for practice and tournaments. I could do without all the homework, but i don't thing that is going to change. This year is going to be an interesting one, but I hope I'll learn from the journey

I definitely feel what you're saying. We actually have to work hard this year to get good grades!?! I know its crazy. But i agree with you when you say high school is way different from what everyone says. When you break it down it is still school. But now, its harder. I too, am overwhelmed with all the tests, quizzes and homework, but we have to work through it. I have already met a bunch of awesome new people whom I hope to become good friends with. Hopefully we'll all keep up our grades and have a good year!

  16. High school is without a doubt alot differant then middle school. In middle school the work wasn't as hard so we didnt have to study or actually try as hard as we do now. On the first day i was so nervous with a mind full of questions like "will i be able to open my locker?!" or "will I get lost?". But now I love high school and all the freedom. I have been looking forward to going to high school for so long. Everyone says that high school is some of the best years of your life and that you dont want to ever miss out on anything. I know that what i do now will effect my chances of getting into my dream college and succeeding at what i want to do. So I am working hard to maintain a good GPA. I will definatly cherish the experience and participate in as many activities as i can. I have also had alot of fun with waterpolo which i have just started playing this year. I love my team and the practices but I do wish I had more time to eat lunch and didnt have to rush to the pool after fifth period. In middle school I couldn't wait for the week to be over and felt like the classes dragged on for hours. Now in high school I feel like the time is flying by and like i'm more interested in what im learning. I can't wait for the journey that lies ahead.

  17. So far I'm loving high school. It may be way more work, but it's 10x more fun than middle school. Last year it was too easy to get straight-A's and now its a challenge to keep my grades up. I'm right now really enjoying the high school experience, I could not enjoy school any more. At this moment I can handle all the assignments and tests, but as long as the classes don't get all that much harder, I should be fine. My hopes this year is simply to get straight-A's and stand out this year. Maybe join some clubs but really focus on my school and sports. Right now I could live without biology. Too much homework, hard grading, I don't think I was ready for it when I started. But right now, at this moment, high school is by far the greatest time of my life. It'll be tough but fun, so here we go.

I completely understand what you're getting at. High school is going to be crazy. Already I'm feeling the stress of it weighing down on me, but at the same time I'm so excited. I love all the new people I'm meeting too and I know that this year will be awesome. I'm just worried about keeping up my 4.0, but hopefully it won't be too difficult. I have a feeling we'll get the hang of it(: As for learning from the journey, I couldn't agree more. I don't like all the homework either, trust me it's too easy to just forget, but I know it'll prepare us for college. Here's to an amazing year to be!

I can't believe im finally in high school either. I feel the exact same way about what you said how you feel a satisfaction from opening lockers and carrying books makes you feel like your on a mission. I love those feelings! And your completely right that high school is to do your best and get more knowledge. I'm ready for the studying and hard work!

    @ Megan

I know! We actually have to try harder this year! I already have a ton of work to do for all my classes but am looking forward to these years to make lots of memories that we'll remember forever. Sure there will be obstacles on the way but im excited for the high school experience.

  20. High school so far has been a complete 180 from middle school. Everything had changed, some for the better and some for the worse. Between homework and football practice i have no free time. In middle I was in cruise control, and i have to figure out a way to crank it up a bit. It feels like forever since we crossed the stage and were sent away to high school. And for some it will be an easy transition. And for others it will be challenging. I hope to maintain good grades and do my best to make it a smooth transition from being a big fish in a small pond, to a small fish in a BIG pond.

    ReplyDelete
  21. @ Malcolm
I know between sports and everything else, ITS CRAZY! By the time i get home from football its already six o'clock. In middle school, by six o'clock i was nearly done with all my homework. And now, i am just beginning to start it. And through football, i have already meet new and amazing people. And have grown closer to a few through it too. But maintain A's is going to be so much harder too. Hopefully freshman will fun and memorable.

  22. My high school experience so far is ok. I like my classes and teachers and the atmosphere of the school. These past eight days have shown me that high school is going to be tough. I am aware and ready to encounter the challenges awaiting me in the near future. My expectation in high school is to get a 4.0 or higher. By scoring a 4.0 or higher, I would more likely attend a four-year university, which is my goal in high school. I hope my classes are going to be fun and interesting. I don't want a dead, boring class that assigns tons of homework each week. The environment at the high school seems positive and very friendly. I wish it stays that way over these next four years.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Deena! I totally agree with you. High school is a lot different then we all thought. When you were talking about how you have to do homework in the three hours or so, I have to to. Since we both play soccer it has been difficult. Managing school work and having practice after school. It also does not help that we have a lot of work throughout the day. Like you said to that sports are a big part of you're life, but you have to maintain your grades. I could not have agreed more. It might be difficult but I'm excited for the rest of high school.

    ReplyDelete
  24. @Jackson

I agree, high school is way different from middle school. Middle school seemed easy, with the small amounts of homework assigned. In high school, we'll have 2-3 hours of homework each night, which will be different. Sports are going to be a pain when you have exams to study for, and homework to finish. Many of us might feel overwhelmed, but we'll have to push through it. The transition from junior high to high school is a big one. Many of us might fall behind. Maintaining good grades will be difficult for all of us. I agree fully with your post, high school is going to be a BIG step.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Where to start? High school is completely different then middle school. My schedule is full to the brim and I have barley any time to hangout with my friends, because of homework and cross country every day. The only day that I am free is on Sundays because I have cross country on Saturday. Thank god I have many friends, I don't know if id be able to make it through high school without them.

  26. So far, high school has been nothing like I thought it would be. I always thought that having lockers instead of backpacks would be better, but there is always this humungous guy who beats me to where my locker is and barricades my locker! I ask him to move, but he doesn't seem to hear me. Some of the classes are moderately easy, but others are not fun at all. I think everyone can agree that there is too much homework. Tennis afterschool combined with all of my homework has left me with absolutely NO free time. Also, I hate walking in the halls because people either step on me, scratch me with their binders, or just brush against me way too much! My personal bubble seems to always get popped by 2nd period everyday. I expect that I'll eventually get used to all of this, but for now, it's quite annoying. But, let's not forget about the fun things! The off-campus pass has been wonderful, getting seven minutes instead of four to get to your class has made me hurry less, and traveling with all of my friends on the bus to our "away games" has been SO much fun! I hope that having so many new people in all of my classes will give me the chance to meet them, and maybe even make some new friends. Despite all of the bad things about high school, I am still excited for all of the new wonderful surprises to come.

I can agree about thinking that high school would be like the movies you watch on TV. Whenever you watch a show about high school on TV, they only show you the drama (like Glee, and other shows.) We've only been here a little over a week and I have lost a couple of friends but have made so many more! If someone isn't in any of your classes, it seems like there are so many other things you have to get done before you even think about talking to them or hanging out together. I defintely feel more independent too. I have to take more responsibility and consider what my choices will do to my future. It's deffinately going to be harder to get all A's this year. :) I didn't even think about that because there was so much else on my mind. As for our teachers high expectations, I think they either want us to push ourselves to do our best, or believe that we're finally old enough to stop behaving like we're little kids, although, I think that all of us still have that little kid inside of us. :)

  28. So far high school has been kind of stressful. Although I haven't had much homework, I've been donating all of my time to the homework that I have and water polo. Because I'm on Varsity as well as JV, i have about four hours of practice a day so my time gets a little cramped. My classes so far haven't been that hard. However, I think this is because they haven't picked up yet, so they can only get harder. Math has been my easiest class so far because we're doing really easy review work. So, I've been able to do most of my homework in class. My favorite part of school has been water polo. I had never played before this summer and i ended up really enjoying it. On the other hand, my least favorite part of high school has been spanish. It's not that it's a hard class, it's just really, really boring and i feel like I'm not learning as much as i should be. I'm definitely considering switching out of that class. Overall, my first week and a half of high school have been an awesome, yet stressful experience and i look forward to the end of the year.

I agree with you. High school is fun, but hard. It will definitely be much more difficult to maintain a 4.0 GPA. This is my goal too because I also want to go to a four-year university. I too hope that my classes are fun and interesting throughout the year. Although it's already too late for spanish. As far as the atmosphere, it's not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I think these next four years will be fun.

I totally agree, every one said that high school was so much fun, but it is a lot of work so far. But I think it will get better. As time goes on I think that we will adjust to all the homework and quizzes and it won’t be as bad. Also, I love lockers. They are like a gift from god. If I had to carry around all those books to every class, I think I would die and get serious back injuries. I know, snack time it so pointless, it just feels like a passing period that is called snack. I also think that it is weird to have a classes with people that are way older than me. But I got to say, it makes me feel more mature(: .

  31. My high school experience has been ok so far. Things are a little different but I feel like I know most things. Finding my classes was hard at first because I switched my classes twice. I had to drop one class and then add a second. Most things seem more laid back than in middle school. I had a very hard time finding my P.E. class but I eventually found it. I always feeling I am forgetting something when coming in to a class. I usually go to my locker though and bring whatever I need. I think I will have most things down by the end of the year. Although it does still make me a little nervous.

  32. High school has been an eye opening experience for me. When hearing about high school in middle school I always thought it would be a breeze, getting more freedom and having less work. But boy, was I wrong. Yes, high school gives you more freedom to make your own choices; but if you make the wrong choices, you are going to be in big trouble later. High school is what sets you up for the rest of your life, and that's a lot of pressure. Even though taking tougher classes will be harder, it's the right thing to do considering that a college is going to consider every class you took before accepting you. Back in middle school, my social life was the only part of my life that I cared about. Now, I have to make sure that I balance my social life with my academics or something could go seriously wrong. Things are more serious now, and I need to take school more seriously. High school is going to be a long journey with many twists and turns, but hopefully it'll be worth it in the end.

I completely agree. High school is a little harder than middle school and doing anything else than school is tough. It is hard to find time for friends, but the weekends help me with that. Although most of the time I am either doing homework or sleeping. I do little else except for the weekends. That is the time I try to get most things done but it is hard with soccer and, of course, more homework. Next year, hopefully, it will get easier and I wont have to waste so much time doing homework.

  34. @Megan

I agree with you one hundred percent. In middle school, grades came easy, and no one had to try very hard to succeed. High school is nothing like that. Even in the first two weeks I've had to study harder than I ever did in middle school. I always thought of high school as somewhere where we'd have fun, and make memories, but it is much more than that. Although it is going to be hard, I love high school and the freedoms that come with it. In middle school, all of our choices were made for us in advance, and we just did what we were told. Now we have the chance to pick what classes we want to take, what sports we want to play, the chance to make our own choices. The thought of that is scary to me, considering we have a fifty fifty chance of making the wrong choice. In the end, I feel the same way about high school as you do Megan, and I think its going to be a fun four years.

  35. My first eight days of high school were hard, confusing, but also fun. On the first day of school I was very confused about were my classes were. The one class especially that confused me was P.E. because I had no idea where I was going and neither did any of the other freshman in my class. Then after we found out that we just had to sit on the steps and wait for the teacher, the teacher didn't even come out side until there was only 15 minutes of class left. Then it took her 10 minutes to even talk to us. I new that high school was going to be very different from middle school and it turns out that the big differences are in the classes and the work. In the classes there are a variety of different people. I never really thought about who would be in my classes, but I just assumed it would be the same people that I had in my classes in previous years. This year I feel a little out of place with sophomores, juniors and even seniors in some of my classes. I hope that as the year progresses I will feel more in place in some of my classes. I also wish that the work becomes easier, but I know that won't happen and that I will have to keep wishing.

  36. High school is awesome, and nothing like what I expected it to be. I was nervous to begin with on the first day, and when it dawned on me that my classes were actually going to be a challenge for me this year, I was in a state of shock. Even the hardest points in middle school were on the easy side, and I expected high school to be more difficult, but not by that much. Now I actually find myself studying, preparing, and not being able to hang out until seven o'clock on a nightly basis! Who knew school could even be like this? I mean, it has only been a week and a half and its already more work to get good grades than it was for most of middle school. Nonetheless, I am not lowering one goal I set for myself, because no matter what, I do want to get the best grades possible in the hardest classes possible. I know how desperatley I want to go to a top college, and if I can't because I freaked out in my first year of high school, I'd be heartbroken. However, despite the highet of high goals I set, I love it here! I love the challenge, and the craziness, and I have a feeling this is going to be a great four years! There is so much more to do at high school, with so many more choices and so much freedom. High school is the reason I actually started a do a sport, something I never would have thought in a million years I could handle. I plan on joining every club that interests me. But, honestly, one of my favorite parts of high school are the lockers, or maybe it's more the fact I can actually open mine! Well whatever the reason, I am anxious to face every challenge in high school head on.

I completely and one-hundred percent agree! I mean, after middle school, I never would have expected to actually have to try this much in a high school. I was looking forward to four more years of a free-ride! And yet, I can't honestly say I am dissappointed in high school. If anything, I can't wait to see what else is to come with high school. There really is about a million things to think about every second, and if I'm not thinking about something inolving schoolwork, I assume I must be forgetting something! And this is not all about our impossible classes. Like you said, it's really about all the memories we make and will tell over and over again when we are eighty years old. The memories that will not only come from our classes and clubs, but the friends we make along the way and the heartbreaks we pull through. I agree with everything you said, Megan, and can't wait for high school to bring it on.

  38. My experience this year for High school has been what I expected but more. It is more of memorizing than anything else. Remembering books, locker combonations, and the homework for that evening. It also kind of scares me that there have been more tests in the first week of school than last year. My expectations are about the same as last year but are raising. It seem like the teachers are more prepared for what we are learning and if something is not working they have a back up. They also have showed that they are not giving any credit for late work and are very strict about it. High school would be more exciting without the home field being redone. It seems like if it was open we'd have more time to do sports in PE instead of walk to the field and walk back. Next year I hope their won't be as much confusion as I had this year trying to get everything together.

I know what you mean. I had a rough time finding all my classes. Also, remembering everything you need for ech class is especially tough. Just trying to remember combinations to your lockers is tough enough. Things are pretty laid back. Nobody is really rushing to get to there classes. Everything just seems to be relaxed. Though everyone is relaxed it does still worry me how much time I have to get to my locker and then to class but I will get it eventually.

  40. My high school experience so far been pretty awesome. It also has been incredibly tiring after coming back from summer vacation. My expectations for this year are high, I hope to have an outstanding year. In the first eight days I have noticed that high school is completely different from middle school. This year I hope to get straight A's and learn many new things. I also feel that this will a tough year with many challenges ahead. I like how the campus is really big and that there is more space to walk around. What I don't like about high school is that we get a lot more homework and and less free time. Things that I could do with are longer breaks and less homework. Things that I could do without are mainly some much class time. I'm really excited for this year

Yeah my experience has actually been pretty good. I agree with you about memorizing a lot of stuff. For me its a pain to remember stuff such as a locker combination. I too also have higher expectations for this year. Yeah the test thing also freaked me out A LOT. Also I also thinks its annoying that the field is under construction. Its a waste of time to walk all the way there and back. I also hope next year won't be as confusing.

  42. My highschool experience so far was not at ALL what I expected! But like the saying goes, "Its easier being said than getting done." I thought it would be easy to balance sports and academics, but I soon found it was HARD! i get so tired after school I don't even want to do any of my homework. But then I just think about how I want to graduate with Honors so bad! i guess thats what drives my to get my work done! My expectations this year is to basically get good grades, and have fun! I hope just hope I can pass every class with a B or an A, but I"m noticing now that I'm going to have to try harder. In high school I like being challenged, but I could do with having breaks with homewrk, and not having to worry about turning anything in late. Its only the very beginning of the year, but till then end of high school, I have to keep on top of everything. Until then, everything I do today counts! A LOT!

I totally agree with you on how you thought high school would be a breeze and all!! I thought everything would just flow naturally, and that all the test were easy enough not to study for! Wow, was I suprised!

  44. My experience in high school so far has been quite the ride that I hoped for. It has challenges and new opportunities. The eight days of high school that I have had to experience has shown that I can self-manage myself pretty good. I can definitely self-mange myself better now than I did in the past. Maybe that’s because I am given harder work that is a little bit more interesting. One of my expectations for high school is to have new challenges a fun time and make my friend group way bigger than it is. So far i have accomplished to find one new friend and that is very good for a few months. One of my hopes for high school is that I get straight A's and get into AP classes in later years. Three things that i like about high school is meeting new people, lockers and, having great new teachers. The one thing that i could do without in high school is the crowded halls that usually end up going so slow that it takes you an estimated ten minutes to get down one hall.

  45. So far, high school has been a lot different than what I expected. In middle school, all of my classes were easy and I didn't have to worry so much about my grades. In high school, all of my classes are harder and the teachers have much higher expectations of you. Even though the schoolwork is more challenging, there are so many upsides to being in high school! Having a locker, for one is amazing. Also having the freedom to make more of your own decisions is great too.I'd have to say sports is my favorite part of high school.Even though school is hectic, crazy, and hard, I love it!On the first day of school, I came in confused about where to go, and nervous about not being able to open my locker. But now I am just excited to see what each day of high school will bring!

Ya I have to agree that my high school year has been very good. Except for the slow and crowded halls. I think that how you hope to have an outstanding year basically is all of what I said but summarized. So I’m glad we agree. I also agree that high school is very different from middle school. It will also probably get progressively different as we progress in the years. I also enjoy how the campus is bigger than the middle school campus. That means that my friends and i can find an area to hang out that doesn’t intrude into anybody else’s.

I completely agree with what you said about balancing sports and school. It seems like there isn't enough time in the day for school, homework, and sports. After tennis practice, all I want to do is sleep, but I can't because I have to do homework! Also, school is a LOT harder than what I thought it would be. Now, all I am doing is homework and studying, which leaves me no time to have fun. But it is all worth it because I want to get good grades, too.

    @ Zoe

I totally agree with what you said about getting stepped on in the halls! It takes SO long to get from class to class because the halls are so overcrowded. Luckily, we get 7 minutes for passing period , because otherwise we'd all be late for class!

  48. My first eight days of high school have been overwhelming but exciting. There have been so many little assignments and big tests to remember, and high school has not even lasted a month. It may be very different to jump into work this early, but at the same time I know it will help me in the long run. I can already tell that this year is going to be all about responsibility. Besides the work, it feels great to finally have a locker and uniform for a high school sports team. I've been enjoying ending my day with a cross country practice; I always have something to look forward to. I don't even have to go to any classes after lunch, which actually makes my day feel more relaxed. I feel as if I can always end on a good note while being with all my friends. But there are definitely some lessons I'll always have to keep in mind. This year, if I don't study for a quiz or test, I'm not going to get a lucky A or B. I also need to do work whether it is going to be checked or not because the assignments are only study tools to help me, not the teachers. And as for my social life, I have make plans with friends if I want to ever hang out with them. Everybody plays sports and everyone has hobbies, and it's easier to see who my closest friends are because they take the time to keep me in their lives. But hopefully life will settle down by the next semester.

  49. Highschool is so different from what I expected! I was so excited to be leaving middleschool but I miss not dodging people in hallways and a lot less work. Besides the hard classes though, high school is so much fun. I like how much longer passing periods are it is a lot better! We actully have time to hang out in the hallways and to get all of our stuff from our lockers. I have to say though that the fact that I am horrible at finding places made the first day a bit confusing but I got everything down pat from now on. I also love the sports, it is so much fun. Even through all that though I love highschool so much, and am so happy I am finally here!

I totally agree! I was so lost the first day! Plus things have been so confusing for me to. I also agree with feeling out of place with all the upperclassmen in our classes. I am taking yearbook and there are two freshman and twenty-three seniors! Plus classes are so much harder. And about the wishing I will be wishing right alongside you. Maybe our combined will power will make the work easier!

I completely agree with what you said about all the classes. Last year I never had to think about my grades and then high school comes and the work just keeps flooding in. I was also very confused on the first day I didn't know how long we had to get to classes or what the bell sounded like. The bell is nothing like the one in middle school. I wasn't worried about my locker at first, but when I got there I couldn't get it opened the first time and thats when I got worried. Luckily it opened the second time. Although they scare me some times I do love the lockers. I thought my first eight days of high school were exciting and a lot better than middle school. I think I am going to like high school.

I completely agree with you when you say there is so much more work! High school is way different than middle school because no one really is going to take it easy on you just because it's the first two weeks of school. The teachers at El Segundo High School have very high expextations for everyone, but I feel like it's actually pretty encouraging. Even though the work sounds like it will take a long time, there will always be a bright side to high school. I totally understand you when you say people can always look at the positive things about high school. What would high school be without football games and dances? These next four years may be all about academics, but they also are about growing as a person socially. High school will be a great experience for memories and planning our futures.

  53. I know it's too early to judge but after a week and a half I'm really enjoying high school. I know that we have much harder work now and we also have a larger amount of work but soon it'll all pay off in the near future. My first day I must admit I was really scared because it's a new school, I didn't really know anyone, and most important I'm starting again from the bottom of the food chain. Now it's better though since I've made friends and also my teachers are pretty cool too. The main reason I love ESHS though is because the high school i was supposed to go to was Westchester High School which really isn't anybody's first choice. When I'm asked "what hs do you go to" im proud to say ESHS where people automatically think about the beautiful campus and the nice community its located in. Unlike Westchester were the first thing that comes up to peoples minds are how "getto" it is or how that there are at least three police cars that circle the school everyday. I know that the next four years here at this school are going swing by so fast within a blink of an eye so we all must work hard, get into a good college, and have a sucessful career. We can't slack off because once we do, were done. We're not going anyone. Most importantly we can't let anyone knock us down, especially those upperclass man who walk around and go "haha freshman!!" Anyways let make the best of these next four years:)

  54. @jake I totally agree with you!! Getting straight A's and getting into AP classes are the most important in HS.It'll definitely look good on our college applications. The lockers too really are a pain. I'm not really a fan of having to take only two steps every five seconds. Having a big group of friends is a good thing too. It helps make us more social with others and maybe even popular...at least within the freshmans. Lets hope we have a great year though!!

  55. Everyone told me that everything in High School would be so much harder than middle school. Well i guess it is harder but its not as "scary" as i thought it would be. I LOVE having a locker! it just makes my life that much easier. The teachers are really helpful and this helps me understand the classes better. I really hope to keep my grades up. It was easier in middle school so now i have a challenge. I don't want to much homework either but sometimes you cant get what you want. Oh well. I could defiantly do without the crowded hallways and all the shoving. I'll get used to it eventually.
This is all a part of the high school experience i just hope it will be a good experience.

I totally agree with you! Not just because we play the same sport but I feel the same way! The passing periods and snack are pretty much the only time we (those who leave for sports at lunch) get to socialize. I also did get a little lost on the first day but after the second day you just get used to it. It feels so good to be out of middle school! Don't have to rush to class or carry a heavy bag! At the high school you have more freedom if you know what i mean? Even though this is a big change, it is a change for the better. :)

  57. I've always been excited to go to High School. Everyone that was older than me would talk about it so highly. They said you would have more freedom, more choices, more work, but have a lot of fun. This seems to all be true so far. However, what I didn't expect was feeling so behind. I feel like I can't exactly find my place, yet. I've been so busy with work and sports that I still feel like I'm roaming. I am hoping that I will settle into ESHS soon, but for now, I am having a great time, so I'm glad I have that going for me. Oh, and BY THE WAY, is it just me or is all of this is much, much, much better than Middle School? (I didn't enjoy that "era" at all.)

I'm excited for what is ahead of me now that I'm here and ready to go. (:

I completely agree with every single word you said. School got tougher, but more fun, and more likable. I wake up in the morning, not dreading the day to come, but actually excited to get to class. I'm excited for every class I have, not all that excited for the homework, but it's all manageable. I also did not expect it to be this challenge, but who doesn't love a good challenge. Hopefully high school just gets better. I have a strong feeling that these next 4 years will be the best 4 years of amazing times. I'm looking forward to the rest, here we come high school.

  59. So far, High school for me has been pretty great. I have wonderful new friends on the tennis team, and I only really foresee good things coming from my involvement there. Despite a little relationship drama, I think that most stories about how aweful High School is, were just made up to scare little children. As of right now I am just hopeful that the whole school year will continue on as it has been, with minor amounts of homework, and LOTS of time for socializing. However, since I know that's not possible, I'd at least like to hope that the lessons will be taught in a way that is easy for me to learn. High school has been absolutely amazing so far, and I wouldn't change a thing about it... Except for maybethe fact that Mrs. Gerber is the only teacher that can hold my interest at all (I'm not sucking up, its true).
